Term 6

This term, we will be covering Geography and our topic will be the Natural Resources. We will be finding the answers to the following questions:

  • What are the worlds natural resources?
  • How has the use of natural resources changed?
  • How can using natural resources cause problems?
  • What natural resources do the UK and Chile have?

Our Art will be the theme of ‘Waves and Oceans’ in term 6. We will be working towards creating a piece of art using block printing using 2 colours.

In English, our focus will be on writing to entertain. For this we will learn how to write contrasting character descriptions.  The children will be working towards creating their own suitable story ending using a picture stimulus.

In Maths, we will be applying our knowledge of decimals through the topic of money. We will then move onto looking at the properties of shape, angles, statistics (using line graphs), and time. Any work that the children can do on telling the time at home, would benefit your child greatly and will support their learning in school.

In RE, the question we will be investigating is ‘Why do some people believe that life is a journey?’. Concentrating mainly on Christianity, we will consider the similarities and differences with other religions we have studied this year.

For PE, we will be doing golf and athletics. Please ensure your child has the correct kit for both sessions. PE will be done outside. As the weather is warming up, please can the children return to shorts and t-shirt for their PE kit. A plain black/blue jumper (preferably not a hoody, due to health and safety) can be added to the kit bag. Sun cream is advised on these PE days (Monday and Friday).

For music, we will be learning the ukulele. A specialist teacher will come in every Tuesday morning and teach both year 4 classes for a 30-minute session each. The school has enough ukuleles for each child so there is no expectation for you to provide this.

Children will finally be able to complete their multiplication tables check in week 3 of this term. Please continue to practise as much as possible before this time.

For Reading, please continue to read with your child for 10 minutes every day if possible. A reading book will be sent home with each child every night. Please record any home reading in the Learning Journal. Please encourage your child to share their likes and preferences of books, genres and authors with their class Reading Ambassador. The ambassadors can then share class thoughts and preferences within their weekly meetings.
