Term 6

This term, we will learn all about weather and water. We will identify where most of the Earth’s water is located, learn about the water cycle, explore why we have seasons and will try to understand why the weather in the UK is so unpredictable.

In English, we will be writing to entertain. We will write a description and a narrative inspired by the book ‘A Boy and a Bear in a Boat’. We will consolidate our learning from year 3; revisiting descriptive language, conjunctions and dialogue.  

In Mathematics, we will continue to explore the concept of fractions. We will identify equivalent fractions as well as adding and subtracting fractions. We will compare, order and add fractions using bar models and counters to consolidate our understanding. We will also revisit the concept of time; telling the time to the nearest five minutes. We will continue to use our 3, 4 and 8 times tables to complete calculations. Please practice quick recall of all these tables so that we can work efficiently and with good pace.

In Science, we will learn about nutrition, skeletons and muscles. We will learn the names of different parts of the skeleton, how muscles work and we analyse a healthy diet with a scientific eye.

In DT, we will learn how to design packaging for sandwiches and will make and evaluate sandwich fillings. In PSHE, we will learn about what makes a healthy diet and how to make choices in our lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In our Music lessons, we will listen to and appraise the song ‘Belonging Together’. We will learn to sing the song and will accompany the song with instruments such as ukuleles and glockenspiels.

In RE, we will continue to explore the question ‘What do different people believe about God?’ We will now begin to compare the beliefs of different religions and communicate our own beliefs with confidence. We plan to have a visit from a religious leader who will share their personal beliefs and faith experiences with us.

For Computing, we will learn about email. We will discuss the importance of communication using email, will learn to compose an email and send emails safely.

In Walmer, PE will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In Bodiam, PE will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will be doing lessons in OAA and athletics and so children should have appropriate clothing for working outdoors.

For Reading, please continue to read with your child for 10 minutes every day.
