Term 2

In English our theme for our non-chronological writing will be Trolls. Over the course of the term we will be consolidating coordinating and subordinate conjunctions as well as prepositions.  In addition to this, we will continuing to develop our use of expanded noun phrases and different types of sentences.

In Mathematics, we are exploring multiplication and division. We have revised strategies such as grouping and sharing when solving division calculations. We have also used number lines to solve calculations which has consolidated our understanding of the relationship between repeated addition and subtraction and multiplication and division. We have continued to practice our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and will begin to learn our 3, 4 and 8 times tables in order to earn our times tables certificates.

This term in geography, we are learning all about villages, town and cities. We are building on our knowledge of prehistoric settlements from our learning in term 2 to identify villages, towns and cities in the 21st century.

In DT we will be making our own small cushion using sewing skills.  To do this we will be learning and using basic sewing skills including appliqué.

In science we will be learning all about rocks and soils.  We will compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties  as well as describe in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock. Finally we will learnt to recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.

In computing we will be learning to code.  This will include understanding what a flowchart is and how flowcharts are used in computer programming. We will also understand how to use the repeat command and understand the importance of nesting.

PE continues to be swimming on Tuesdays.  On Fridays, we will be learning how to improve our fitness where we will be also applying our Maths and Science skills to measure times and record data.

This term in music we will be learning a song called ‘When the Saints go Marchin’ in’.   All our music activities will be linked to this song.  We will start by listening to the song and think about whether it is in a major or minor key, how many beats in a bar and how we would describe the tempo. We will learn to sing the song in unison as well as with an echo.  We will start to learn G, A and B on the recorder for some parts as well as G and A to create an accompaniment on the glockenspiels.

In RE, we are learning how the Bible is important to Christians today. We will learn a variety of Bible stories, which include The Creation Story, The Lost Sheep and The Prodigal Son. We will discuss what these stories teach Christians about God and salvation.

In PSHE, we will learn how to stay safe at home and in school. We are learning how to treat minor injuries and what to do in an emergency to keep others safe as well.
