Term 2

This term our theme is ‘Our Locality’ and studying the features of United Kingdom. We will be reading a range of non-fiction texts from instructions to fact files about the United Kingdom, Landmarks within the UK as well as other features of the British Isles.

In English, we will continue to focus on the basic sentence structure of a simple sentence, using verbs and nouns. In addition, we will be identifying the similarities and differences between command, question and statements.

Maths will focus on number addition and subtraction. We will recap key concepts from Year 1 such as number bonds to 10 and 20 as well as securing their number sense and understanding the relationship with the whole and parts of an amount using addition and subtraction to show this connection.

In DT, we will be exploring Pivots, Linkages and Levers by creating our very own worry monster. Children will explore linkages, create their own design and evaluate their work.

French lessons will be delivered using the classroom environment and the focus will be food this term. Starting by learning the common fruits, we eat during snack time such as apples, pears and nectarines.

PSHE lessons will focus on bullying and who to approach for support. We will also be introducing the NSPCC pants resource to the children. An email has been to parents separately.

For RE, we will be exploring the role of festivals and celebrations in major world religions as well as in our own homes.

In Computing, children will be looking at online safety and the importance of keeping safe whilst on devices.

Yoga and Athletics will be the core focus of our PE lessons, please ensure that children have a PE jumper to wear as we may have PE outdoors.

For reading, please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes. If you do not have your Bug Club login details, please contact your child’s class teacher. Please also continue to use TT Rock Stars for practicing times tables. Reading records are to be brought in every Friday and books will be changed and returned for you to keep for the week. Please not that Bug club is the most effective method for us to assess your child’s reading. If you are having, any troubles please feel free to let us know.
