Term 6

This term we will continue to use a range of different genre to inspire our writing. We are applying the skills that we have learnt throughout KS2 to produce a speech and debate. This will enable us to develop our ability to address different audiences and write in a style that is different from narrative writing. In addition to this, we will also be developing our speaking, listening and drama skills, through immersing ourselves in our year 6 production of Cinderella and Rockafella.

This term we will complete our learning about Twentieth Century Conflicts in History, before beginning our final Geography topic: Globalisation. We will explore the meaning of globalisation and examine how technology has changed the way we communicate. We will also consider how globalisation affects trade, the concept of fast fashion and global food production.

In Maths, we will continue our learning about Algebra & Ratio. In order to prepare the children for secondary school, we will be revising previously taught methods and developing our problem-solving skills.

In Science, we will complete our learning about Light, before beginning our final Science topic: Evolution and Inheritance.

In DT we will be creating structures. We will research playground equipment and conduct market research, before designing our ideal playground based upon our research and recommendations. We will then create a miniature 3D model of our desired playground.

For Computing, children will be creating quizzes for a target audience. They will consider the audience’s ability level and interests when designing their quiz. They will learn how to use the programme 2Quiz to make and share their quizzes. Once they have created and shared their quiz, they will use feedback to enhance their product.

In PE, we will be doing athletics. We will complete challenges for distance and time that involve using different styles and combinations of running, jumping and throwing. We will learn how to persevere and achieve our personal best. This unit will well-equip the children for their final Sports Day at Coxheath.

In RE, we will continue to explore the question 'What matters most to Christians and Humanists?’ This topic will enable the children to build upon their knowledge of Christianity and identify the similarities and differences to the Humanist way of life. We will then begin the topic: What kind of king would Jesus be?

In PSHE, we will be exploring the concept of transition in preparation for leaving Coxheath Primary School ad beginning a new adventure at secondary school.
