Term 4

In Maths, our focus will continue to on fractions and problem solving within the unit of fractions. Children will continue to practice their arithmetic and timetable skills weekly. We will learn on how to use efficient methods such as estimating and adding on to solve problems and check our answers. 

In Literacy this term, we will be writing our own narrative. Our narrative will include previously taught grammar, such as the use of semi-colons and colons. In addition, we will be teaching new concepts such as writing a three-part sentence.  Children will analyse expert examples before creating and editing their own work.  

In Science, children will learn about Evolution and Inheritance.  They will learn to recognise the connection between parents and children, understand fossilisation, and learn about the contribution Charles Darwin has made to scientific theories.

In DT, children will create an automata (cam) toy, which uses pivots to create movements. Children will research existing cam toys, design a can toy, make their very own automata toy, and finally evaluate their toy by suggesting improvements.

In Computing, we will use the Purple Mash to create quizzes. Children will learn the basic principles of creating a quiz. Children will programme a quiz using a variety of questions. They will explore the use of timers and adding scores to their quizzes.

This term in Geography, we will be learning about population. We will cover key terminology related to population. Children will identify key changes to population, compare populations, and learn about significant events that can lead to changes in populations.

During our PSHE lessons, we will continue to explore the influence media has on people. Children we explore the importance of keeping safe when using social media. They will learn that the media can be a platform for gambling activities, and how to stay safe when using sites.
