Term 2

In Maths, we will focus on multiplication, addition, division and subtraction using numbers with five or six digits. Children will learn skills on divisibility, and making connections to promote efficient calculation.  We will continue to test multiplication facts regularly and children can use TTRS to improve their times tables fluency.

In Literacy this term, we will continue to revise the key terminology and writing skills that the children learnt last year to make sure we are secure in using and applying them. By the end of the term, we will be writing our own narrative.

In Science, children will learn about the classification of living things. Children will learn about the classification system by Carl Linnaeus (taxonomical system). We will explore the arrangement of animals and plants into groups according to their observed similarities.

In DT, we have been set a design brief to create an electronic doodler. Children will build a series circuit, design their doodler, and evaluate its purpose and functionality.

In Computing, we will continue to learn about coding. However, this term their focus will be to create a plan and create a text adventure using coding techniques. Children will use the ‘2create a story’ programme on Purple Mash to plan, present, add functions and debug their stories.

In RE this term, we will explore the question ‘What do religions say to us when life is challenging?’ Through this question, we will explore three religions, discussing and considering the impact of spirituality on daily challenges. We will also be making links between the three concepts: how are they similar and how are they different? Which has most impact and why?

This term in Geography, we will be learning all about ‘Local fieldwork’. Children will use maps, Ordinance surveys and compass points to enhance their study. They will observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features of our local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans, graphs and digital technologies.

Our PSHE topic will continue to focus on how we can keep healthy as we grow. We will focus on identifying the difference between habits that enhance our healthy lifestyle from those that do not. This term, our focus will be on mental health, and how we can support our own mental health in various ways.
