Term 3

In Maths, our learning will focus on fractions, with an emphasis on problem solving within this unit. Children will continue to practise their arithmetic skills on a weekly basis. They will also learn how to use efficient strategies, such as estimating and adding on, to solve problems confidently and to check the accuracy of their answers.

This term in Literacy, pupils will be exploring the spine-chilling narrative genre. They will develop their storytelling skills by creating suspense, atmosphere, and tension in their writing. A key teaching focus will be the effective use of dashes and speech marks to punctuate dialogue and enhance meaning. Through model texts, guided practice, and independent writing, pupils will learn how these punctuation features can improve clarity, expression, and impact in their narratives.

In Science, children will identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. They will learn to recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on how their bodies function. Finally, they will explore how nutrients and water are transported around the body.

This term in Art, children will learn how to sketch a landscape using aerial perspective. They will study and analyse the work of artists such as David Hockney, focusing on how colour is used to emphasise depth and distance. Through this unit, children will develop their understanding of layers, texture and colour, before creating their own inspired artwork and evaluating their final piece.

In Computing, we will be using the Purple Mash tool 2Blog. Children will learn the basic principles of creating and maintaining a blog within a safe and controlled environment. They will develop skills in planning, creating and presenting blog posts, while also revisiting the importance of staying safe online.

In RE, we will continue to explore the key question, “What do religions say to us when life is challenging?” This term, children will focus on how religious teachings can influence everyday life, drawing inspiration from the religions previously studied.

This term in Geography, children will be learning about population. They will explore key population-related terminology, identify changes in population, compare populations across different areas, and learn about significant events that can lead to population change.

During PSHE lessons, children will explore the influence of the media on people’s thoughts and actions. They will learn about the importance of staying safe when using social media and evaluate the reliability of different types of online content, such as blogs, videos, news reports, reviews and advertisements.
