Term 2
In Maths, we will focus on multiplication, addition, division and subtraction using numbers with five or six digits. Children will learn skills on divisibility, and making connections to promote efficient calculation. We will continue to test multiplication facts regularly and children can use TTRS to improve their times tables fluency.
This term, children will be exploring the fascinating world of Pandora as they write their own non-chronological reports. They’ll research and describe its incredible landscapes, unique species and mysterious environment, while learning how to organise information clearly using paragraphs, headings and subheadings. Along the way, they’ll also refine their grammar by using colons for lists and linking ideas smoothly to create engaging, informative writing.
In Science, children will learn about the classification of living things. Children will learn about the classification system by Carl Linnaeus (taxonomical system). We will explore the arrangement of animals and plants into groups according to their observed similarities.
In Design and Technology (DT), we will be learning about cooking and nutrition. Throughout this unit, we will explore the important role food plays in nourishing our bodies, while also developing our practical cooking skills. As part of our learning, we will plan and design a three-course meal and have the opportunity to make one of these dishes ourselves.
This term in Computing, children will explore text-based adventure games. They’ll begin by discovering what these games are and planning their own “choose your own adventure” stories using 2Connect. They will then bring their stories to life by creating, testing and debugging them in 2Create a Story. Later in the term, pupils will be introduced to map-based adventures, learning how to design games that allow players to move between different locations. Finally, they will use 2Code to program their own interactive text adventures, applying coding skills such as functions, if/else statements and loops.
In RE this term, we will explore the question ‘What do religions say to us when life is challenging?’ Through this question, we will explore three religions, discussing and considering the impact of spirituality on daily challenges. We will also be making links between the three concepts: how are they similar and how are they different? Which has most impact and why?
This term in Geography, we will be learning all about ‘Local Fieldwork’. Children will use maps, Ordnance Surveys, and compass points to enhance their study. They will observe, measure, record, and present the human and physical features of our local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans, graphs, and digital technologies. As part of this topic, we will also be carrying out a fieldwork study to investigate the features of a walkable street and conducting a survey of the streets near our school. During our study, we will also notice and discuss any changes that have taken place in the local area over time.
Our PSHE topic will continue to focus on how we can keep healthy as we grow. We will focus on identifying the difference between habits that enhance our healthy lifestyle from those that do not. This term, our focus will be on mental health, and how we can support our own mental health in various ways
