Term 4
Term 4 blurb:
This term, we will be covering Geography and our topic will be Migration. We will be learning about the many different reasons why people may move locations and the impact this has on communities.
This term we will be working on our topic ‘Landmarks’. We will be revisiting Cubism and thinking about how the invention of the camera revolutionised art. We will be using the iPads to capture images of local landmarks and ourselves. Using PicCollage, we will edit the images to produce a piece of digital art.
In English, our focus will be on narrative writing. For this, we will learn how to use speech punctuation and the effect this has on their writing. Speech punctuation is a new concept for the children in year 4 so we will be using the whole of term 4 to ensure the children can use it confidently and effectively in their writing.
In Maths, we will be exploring fractions. For the fractions topic, we will recap how to find fractions of amounts and then cover: equivalent fractions, fractions greater than 1, adding fractions and counting in fractions. They will be completing fluency activities to ensure the concepts are secure and also problem solving challenges to ensure the children can apply their knowledge.
In RE, the question we will be investigating is ‘Why do some people believe that life is a journey?’; drawing comparisons between religions and religious teachings.
During Science, children will be learning about animals, including humans. They will explore how animals grow, develop, and reproduce, and discover the importance of nutrition, skeletons, and muscles in keeping bodies healthy and strong.
In our Computing lessons, we will continue to explore the exciting world of animation and the techniques used by animators. We will explore traditional animation methods and compare them with digital animation using 2Animate. We will learn key skills such as onion skinning, planning and creating a narrative, and enhancing simple animations with software.
For PE, please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school including a tracksuit (sweater not a hoodie please) as we hope that the weather will be kind and we will be able to use the outdoor space for lessons.
Times tables is a huge focus in year 4. The expectation is that by the end of this academic year the children will know all their times tables up to 12 x 12. We will continue to test the children on their times tables weekly.
For Reading, please continue to read with your child for 10 minutes every day if possible. A reading book will be sent home with each child every night. Please record any home reading in the Learning Journal.
