Term 2

In English our theme for our non-chronological writing will be Trolls. Over the course of the term, we will be consolidating coordinating and subordinate conjunctions as well as prepositions.  In addition to this, we will be continuing to develop our use of expanded noun phrases and different types of sentences.

In Mathematics, we are continuing our learning about addition and subtraction. We will be introducing the column method to the children and adding ones, tens and hundreds. We will also be exploring multiplication and division later in the term when we will revise strategies such as grouping and sharing when solving division calculations. We will also use number lines to solve calculations to consolidate our understanding of the relationship between repeated addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.

This term in geography, we are learning all about villages, town and cities. We are building on our knowledge of prehistoric settlements from our learning in term 1 to identify villages, towns and cities in the 21st century.

In art we will be completing a unit on Macro art.  It will be linked with nature and we will be learning to look at patterns in nature, including snail shells.

In science we will be learning all about rocks and soils.  We will compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties as well as describe in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock. Finally, we will learn to recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.

In computing we will be learning about spreadsheets.  We will design and create spreadsheets and use them to sort and retrieve data.

PE will be dance on Tuesdays.  On Wednesdays, we will be learning how to improve our fitness where we will be also applying our Maths and Science skills to measure times and record data.

This term in music we will be listening to a range of songs in the jazz style. We will think about the instruments and singers as well as thinking about what it reminds us of.

In RE, we are learning how the Bible is important to Christians today. We will learn about a variety of Bible stories, which include The Creation Story, The Lost Sheep and The Prodigal Son.

In PSHE, we will learn how to stay safe at home and in school. We are learning how to treat minor injuries and what to do in an emergency to keep others safe as well.
