This term, we will be covering History and our topic will be Anglo-Saxons and Scots. We will be learning about the timeline of key events during this period in history, what life was like for Anglo-Saxons and what they believed in. We will be having an Anglo-Saxon day near the beginning of term 3 and you will have received a letter about this during term 2.

In Design and Technology, we will be designing and making individual slingshot cars. The children we learn how to build a strong chassis to keep their car stable. We will race them at the end of topic to see who has built the fastest car!    

In English, our focus will be on adjectives and fronted adverbials to show frequency and time. We will use taught skills to write persuasive adverts and letters.

In Maths, we will be exploring multiplication and division. We will look at multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. We will also explore different strategies to recall our times tables and then we’ll move on to formal written methods for multiplication and division calculations. We will also revise the topics already taught in terms 1 and 2

In RE, we will be investigating the question ‘What can we learn from religions about what is right and wrong?’ We will be drawing comparisons between religions and religious teachings.

For PE, we will be doing indoor PE for both of our sessions each week. There will be a gymnastics session and a fundamentals session. This will focus on balancing, jumping and running at different speeds and directions.

For music, we will be learning to play the ukulele. A specialist teacher will come in every Wednesday morning and teach both year 4 classes for a 30-minute session each. The school has enough ukuleles for each child so there is no expectation for you to provide this. With Mrs Holt, our music specialist, we will be working on notation skills, composing and performing.

Times tables is a huge focus in year 4. The expectation is that by the end of this academic year the children will know all their times tables up to 12 x 12. We will be testing the children on their times tables weekly.

For Reading, please continue to read with your child for 10 minutes every day if possible. A reading book will be sent home with each child every night. Please record any home reading in the Learning Journal.
