Term 5
In English, we are developing our understanding of non-fiction and presentational features to write our own texts about a villain from a superhero story. We will be thinking about what makes a villain interesting thinking about their powers, weaknesses, motivations, and more. We will also revise the use of conjunctions to extend our sentences.
This term, we are learning all about Ancient Greece. We will identify Greece on a map, evaluate the achievements of this ancient civilisation and its impact on our modern day lives. We will be considering how life was in Ancient Greek times and how systems such as democracies developed from there.
In Mathematics, we will be looking at mass and capacity and converting between these units of measurement. We will then return to looking at fractions but this time, adding and subtracting and finding amounts of fractions. We will end the term with looking at money.
In Science, we are learning all about light and shadows. We will be conducting investigations looking at how shadows change and thinking about the dangers of the sun.
In DT, we will be cooking and learning about the seasonality of different foods. We will learn which foods are grown in our country and which are imported from countries abroad.
In PSHE, we will be exploring the concept of dental hygiene and how to eat well in order to stay healthy.
In our French lessons, we are learning to say where I live using the first person high frequency verb ‘j’habite’ (I live). We will also learn 5 nouns and their determiners for rooms of the house.
In RE, we are learning what different people believe about God. We will discuss the importance of the belief of God to religious followers as well as considering the challenges of believing or not believing in God. Through our discussions, we will begin to develop our own individual beliefs about God and religion.
For Computing, we will be learning about branching databases to sort objects using yes/ no questions and we will use Purple Mash to create our own. Following this, we will learn to enter data to create a graph.
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Bodiam and Mondays and Wednesdays for Walmer. In these lessons, the pupils will be learning the skill of cricket and gymnastics.
For Reading, please continue to read with your child for 10 minutes every day.
