This term our global theme is ‘Innovation’. Our core text is ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’, the famous story by Roald Dahl, whereby a young boy finds a solution to a problem through an invention. We will be writing our own short story based on the book using some of the grammar we have learned throughout the year. Additionally, we will plan, write and edit a fact-file; comparing successful medicines created by error in opposed to those skilfully thought out and planned.
In DT, we will explore how we can take an everyday product and innovate it to make it better. We will look at the different stages and roles in innovation from planning, project management to design. After exploring these stages, we will make our product, trial and evaluate.
To further embed our Global Theme of ‘Innovation’, we will study the innovation of medicine throughout history. Especially the early use of herbs to cure common health problems to modern day innovations, such as the COVID 19 vaccines.
Music lessons will be based on playing the basic keys of a Glockenspiel to a piece of music, collectively, as a class. PSHE lessons will focus on the role of a good friend and exploring what loneliness looks like and how we can recognise and overcome being lonely. In RE, we will explore the stories of creation according to Christianity and Islam, as well as looking at what a new beginning might mean to us, especially as we prepare for transition into a new year group in September.
