This term our global theme is ‘Innovation’. Our core text is ‘Look Up’ by Nathan Bryon, where a little girl called Rocket is on a mission to show everyone a ‘spectacular sight’! Rocket desperately wants to be an astronaut when she grows up and so we are going to be thinking about the children’s aspirations for the future. We’re going to be developing our descriptive writing skills as well as writing a job advertisement and a newspaper report.
In PSHE, we will be exploring money, including ways to keep money safe and why saving money is important. Linked to this, we will be designing and making our very own money boxes in DT!
To further embed our global theme ‘Innovation’, we will be looking at the life of Captain Sir Tom Moore and how his actions inspired others to have big dreams. We will also be listening to the well-known song, from Matilda the Musical, ‘When I Grow Up’ to encourage the children to think about what they want to achieve in the future. Within music the children will be developing their performance skills and we will end the year with them sharing this song.
For reading and phonics, please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes every day. Keep recording your child’s reads, whether they have read their school book, a book from home or on Bug Club, it all counts towards their certificates! Please support your child’s phonics learning at home by playing the games we have provided you with alongside going on Phonics Play.
