In our Literacy lessons this term, we will be developing our ability to persuade. We will be looking at a range of texts so that we can identify persuasive techniques that can then be transferred into our own writing. As a class, we will decide upon a topic that we feel passionate about and then put our persuasive skills to the test. In order to make sure that our writing is clear and conveys our meaning effectively, we will be further developing our understanding of how sentences are constructed. The children will also be looking at the other uses of a colon and will be introduced to why and how we can use subjunctive form to our advantage.
This term we will be studying Civil Rights in History. We will be learning about what is meant by ‘civil rights’ and looking at the Civil Rights Movement in America in the 1950s and 1960s and making reference to recent events in Britain including the Black Lives Matter movement.
In Maths, we will be exploring fractions, decimals and percentages. We will also be revising previously taught skills and developing our problem solving and reasoning skills. Please continue to learn multiplication tables and division facts at home, as they are fundamental to the Year 6 curriculum.
In Art, we will be creating a textile piece inspired by Ndebele Art. We will be analysing the work of Esther Mahlangu and using that to help inspire us when we come to design our own Ndebele pattern. As part of our art topic, we will be experimenting with different fabric paints, discussing the effect it creates on different fabrics.
For Computing, we aim to provide children with the opportunity to find out more about how networks work, understand computer networks, including the Internet, learn how they can provide multiple services, such as the World Wide Web, and explore the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration.
In PE, we will be doing gymnastics and yoga. We will be developing our balance skills and agility through a range of activities.
In RE, we will be studying the topic 'What do religions say to us when life gets hard?’ We will learn what different religions can teach us about dealing with hard times in life.
In PSHE, we will be exploring how the media can influence people. Through this topic we will explore media literacy and digital resilience. We will discuss how the media can influence and affect decision-making. As part of this, we will also look at how we can stay safe online, making sure we are protecting ourselves.
