Term 5

This term, we will be writing to inform. We will produce an essay focusing on ‘How the perception of women has changed over time’.  We will focus on previous grammar taught, such as parenthesis and relative clauses. Children will be encouraged to independently apply their writing skills in the most precise context.

In Maths, we will be looking at decimals and percentages. We will explore equivalent decimals, percentages and fractions, ordering and comparing and looking at percentages as decimals and percentages as fractions.  Concrete resources and pictorial representations will help to consolidate our existing knowledge in these areas. Using mathematical language, we will explain our reasoning in a number of problem-solving activities. Additionally, we will continue to focus on rapid recall of times tables. Focusing on times tables in class and at home will allow children to recall these facts efficiently.

For Reading, we will focus on core skills such as retrieval, vocabulary, and inference throughout our guided reading sessions. There will be many opportunities for class reading, individual reading and reading for pleasure. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day.

In Science, we will learn about the lifecycles and reproduction of animals and plants.  We will explore the local area looking at lifecycles.  We will also look at similarities and differences in lifecycles.  We will explore the important role that scientists such as Sir David Attenborough and Dame Jane Goodall have in conserving our world and the animals that live in it.

In History, we will learning about changing Britain.  We will explore topics in more recent British history which include the Bristol Bus Boycotts, Section 28 and the wheelchair warriors.

In Computing, we will use Purple Mash to learn how to model.

In French, we will be learning about living a healthy lifestyle.

In Art, we will be learning about identity through mixed media journaling.

In P.S.H.E, we will be learning about how drugs can affect our health.

Throughout all of our lessons, we will have a strong focus on Oracy and listening. We will inspire the children to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them by developing learners who can think critically, reason together and have the vocabulary to express their knowledge and understanding.
