This term, our global theme is ‘Wellbeing’. Our core text is ‘The Water Princess’ a story about a young girl’s struggle to bring clean drinking water to her small African village. We will be writing character and setting descriptions, inspired by the striking illustrations in the text. We will also discuss the challenges people face across the world, in finding clean drinking water and the effect this has particularly during a pandemic.
In Geography, we will be learning about Madagascar. We will develop our key knowledge linked to differences and similarities between Madagascar and England. We will explore maps and identify continents on world maps.
In Music, we will be exploring African drumming, singing and dance. We will use djembe drums and other percussion instruments to compose our own music. Expressive arts are strongly linked to our global theme of wellbeing, therefore in Art, we will explore the work of Villisana. We will create our own brightly threaded portraits using embroidery techniques.
In RE, we will discuss the importance of taking care of each other and the world. We will discuss the actions of the protagonist in The Water Princess, the Good Samaritan as well as real life role models such as Wangari Maathai and Dalai Lama.
