This term, our global theme is ‘Wellbeing’. Our core text is ‘Germs vs Soap’, a story about the secret life of germs who try to trick children into not using soap to wash their hands. We will be writing character descriptions about these hilarious characters but more importantly, we will discuss the importance of good hygiene particularly during a pandemic. We will write our own instructions on how to wash our hands and will discuss the challenges faced by those who do not have access to clean water or soap, such as the homeless in our local area.
We will also be making connections with our developing understanding of the importance of water with our learning in Art. We will conduct research into the French artist and horticulturist Claude Monet, who created the famous painting ‘The Water Lily Pond’ as well as exploring other artists who have been inspired by water in the natural world. We will explore impressionist techniques to produce our own paintings of water.
In French, we will learn classroom commands and will strive to use these in our classrooms every day. Hopefully, our classroom experiences will be more positive than Monet’s!
In Science, we will learn about living things. We will begin to learn how to classify living things by observing their different features as well as how to look after living things and respect our local environment.
For reading, please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day. If you do not have your Bug Club login details, please contact your child’s class teacher.
