This term in History, we will be learning all about ‘Travel and Transport’. We will begin by exploring the invention of the wheel, before following the evolution of a variety of forms of transport; including planes, trains and automobiles. Children will also have the opportunity to learn about some of the significant people involved in the history of travel and transport.
In English, we will be further consolidating our sentence work and expanding our knowledge of writing in paragraphs. We will continue to learn about word classes, with the addition of adverbs. In addition, we will learn about how to use expanded noun phrases and the conjunction ‘if’. Our writing outcomes for the term will be a description and a story.
Maths will focus on fractions and statistics. However, we will continue to recap key concepts such as methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Multiplication facts will continue be tested weekly, with many children continuing to move beyond 2s, 5s and 10s.
In Art, we will be exploring the work of Victoria Villasana. Children will be given the opportunity to experiment with textiles, drawing inspiration from her work, before creating their own art pieces.
Our topic for Music this term is ‘Reflect, Rewind and Replay - The History of Music. Here we will revisit some of our previous learning, as well as looking at ways in which music has changed and adapted over the years.
PSHE lessons will focus on ‘What helps us grow and stay healthy’. Children will have the opportunity to explore various ways in which they can stay healthy; exploring the topics of diet, physical exercise and mindfulness .
For RE, we will be continuing to explore the question ‘Who is Muslim and what do they believe?’ We will learn about the festival of Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr; consider objects that are precious to us and learn about special artefacts in the Islamic faith.
In Computing, children will be learning about a variety of ways that information can be presented digitally. These will include ebooks, quizzes and fact files. They will have a go at making a quiz and fact file and present it to the class.
Invasion skills and striking and fielding will be the core focus of our PE lessons this term. In both lessons, children will learn new skills that can be transferred to may sports.
For reading, please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day. To help them to really engage with the text, we ask that you ask them questions about what to ensure they are thinking about the meaning. If you do not have your Bug Club login details, please contact your child’s class teacher. Please also continue to use TT Rock Stars for practicing times tables.
During May children will also be sitting their KS1 SATs. The test papers consist of Maths, Reading Comprehension and Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation.
