This term, the we will be focusing on developing information texts. We will begin the term focusing on non-chronological reports. We will be analysing the key features of this type of writing, developing their ideas for our own writing and then creating reports about our very own Ancient Greek inspired god. Further into the term, we will be creating news reports and will have the opportunity to present like a newsreader. We will base the news report around an event in 'Who Let the Gods Out' by Maz Evans. We will consolidate our understanding of using commas for parenthesis by this time focusing on adverbials of time.
In Maths, we will build on their knowledge of area and perimeter and will begin to look at compound shapes. Further through the term, we will move onto developing our knowledge of multiplication and division. We will explore the relationship between numbers and build on previous knowledge. Using mathematical language, we will explain our reasoning in a number of problem-solving activities. Additionally, we will continue to focus on rapid recall of times tables, which is vital for understanding this term. Focusing on times tables in class and at home will allow children to recall these facts efficiently. We have a number of class incentives running and children will be using the new iPads to participate in Arena battles in TT Rockstars. To ensure continuous progression in this area, we are encouraging all children to use this app at home, ideally for 10 minutes, 3 times per week, or whenever possible.
For Reading, the children will be focusing on core skills such as retrieval, vocabulary, and inference throughout our guided reading sessions. There will be many opportunities for class reading, individual reading and reading for pleasure. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day. If you do not have your Bug Club login details, please contact your child’s class teacher. We will be reading 'Who Let the Gods Out' by Maz Evans in our story time sessions.
In Science, the children will be learning about forces including gravity, levers, pulleys and mechanisms.
In Art, we will develop a range of skills to eventually design and create a mythical creature's eye using clay.
In Computing, we will use Excel to learn how to create and develop spreadsheets.
In PSHE, we will be learning about growth and change that we may experience in our bodies.
In RE, we will be learning about God, from different religious perspectives and answering the question: ‘How can following God bring freedom and justice?’
Throughout all our teaching and learning, we will have a strong focus on oracy and listening. We will inspire the children to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them by developing learners who can think critically, reason together and have the vocabulary to express their knowledge and understanding.
