Term 6

This term, the children will write to inform by exploring film reviews, both written and spoken.  Children will deepen their understanding of how tenses work in the English language and the impact this has on the reader.

In Maths, the children will continue to explore fractions. Building on previous knowledge, children will develop their skills by learning to convert measurements. Using mathematical language, the children will explain their reasoning in a number of problem-solving activities. Additionally, we will continue to focus on rapid recall of times tables, this is vital for understanding this term.  Focusing on times tables in class and at home will allow children to recall these facts efficiently. We have a number of class incentives running and children will be using the new iPads to participate in Arena battles in TT Rockstars. To ensure continuous progression in this area, we are encouraging all children to use this app at home, ideally for 10 minutes, 3 times per week, or whenever possible.

For Reading, the children will be focusing on core skills such as retrieval, vocabulary, and inference throughout our guided reading sessions.  There will be many opportunities for class reading, individual reading and reading for pleasure.  Please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day.  We will be reading 'The Last Wild' in Canterbury Class and 'Floodland' in Rochester Class in our story time sessions.  Please continue to encourage your child to read at home as often as possible.

In Geography, the children will learn about energy and sustainability and how countries all over the world are becoming greener through technological advances.

In Science, the children will explore lifecycles and reproduction of animals and plants.  Building on previous knowledge and enhancing their scientific skills through enquiries.

In Art, the children will explore how perspective inspires creative works of art. We will be looking at the work of Arthus Bertrand, Fabio Giampietro and how Patrick Hughes manipulates perspective to create innovative works of art.

In Computing, children will be learning how to create a 3D model of packaging.

In PSHE children will be exploring jobs and careers.  They will consider skills and attitudes required for various career pathways.

In RE, children will be creating art based on their religious knowledge and understanding which they have developed through the year.

Throughout all our teaching and learning we will have a strong focus on Oracy and listening.  We will inspire the children to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them by developing learners who can think critically, reason together and have the vocabulary to express their knowledge and understanding.
